New certification for the U1000 Matrix Drive

The U1000 Matrix converter can be ordered now with following certifications: NK, BV, DNV/GL, ABS, LR, KR

There s no need to order special marine model code. All U1000 up to 415 A ordered from September 2018 are certified for marine installations.

The U1000 at a Glance

The YASKAWA Matrix Technology series U1000 have been successfully proofed in the field of low harmonic, space saving and regenerative applications. This innovative technology controls the motor load by directly converting AC input voltage to AC output voltage.

The AC to AC conversion offers many advantages compared to conventional AC drive design, where the power conversion is AC to DC to AC. As you notice the key advantage of Matrix technology design eliminates the need for a rectifying circuit and DC smoothing circuit that is used in conventional Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) drive.

When it comes to marine applications to be in time means to be efficient and reliable. When it comes to efficiency and reliability solutions the U1000 is the answer to power quality, energy savings and system efficiency improvement.

Benefits in low harmonic requirements at ship, clean grid power supply or 12 pulse system

Installing a conventional VSI drive you need heavy filtering to avoid input harmonic distortion (THDi) and to keep the IEEE 519 limits for harmonic guideline. Drive without any external filtering results in high input current distortion (THDi ≈ 88%). To improve the THDi and current distortion you can install 12 pulse system solution to keep the input current harmonic level below 10% but this system needs an additional 12 pulse input transformer and 12 pulse ready drive. This phase shifting solution compared to conventional drive solution improves the harmonics, but it is a big and heavy solution. And it is still not offering same performance as the YASKAWA U1000 solution, where all you need is a 3 wire in 3 wire out compact installation.

This smart YASKAWA Matrix drive design provides significant footprint and weight saving. The Matrix technology reduces THDi to 5% without the need for external transformers or filters. The low harmonic performance results in near sinusoidal input current waveform that reduces efficiency losses on the system power supply. Additionally, the reduced current distortion improves the power factor (PF ≈ 0,98) which finally reduces the energy cost and eliminates oversized transformers and wiring makes the U1000 your first choice in low harmonic and high efficiency applications.
